Our Wonderful Staff and Teachers

The teachers at Torbank are the circle of learning.  All staff members are CPR/AED and First Aid certified. Teachers attend workshops in Early Childhood to enhance their teaching and to share with your precious little one!


There are two formal parent/teacher conferences per year and throughout the year communication is always supported and encouraged.

Gayle Aprile, Director

Gayle has been Director here at Torbank for over 25 years, and holds a BA from Pace University. She lives in Carmel with her husband Rich. Four of her five children are Torbank graduates.  The Aprile family share their home with a black lab named Tucker, two cats, Abbey and Cali, and numerous Torbank hatched chickens and ducks…actually they live in the barn, not the house. Her interests include gardening, home canning, nature, antiques, and raising chickens and ducks, of course!

Suzanne Nolan, Head Teacher

Suzanne has over 10 years of experience here at Torbank working with two year olds and has been actively involved in the school for as many years. Suzanne lives in Ossining with her husband Bob and their three children, all of which are Torbank graduates. Suzanne is originally from the Albany area and holds a BS in marketing from Southern University of New Hampshire. Suzanne enjoys teaching here at Torbank as well as volunteering at St Augustine’s and the Ossining Community. 

Tina Cappello, Assistant Teacher

Tina joined the Torbank family in 2016 as a teaching assistant in the two year old class. Tina comes to Torbank with a wealth of early childhood experience under her belt and two children of her own. She lives in Ossining with her husband and her two children. If Tina is not busy here at Torbank she is busy involved with her children's afterschool activities. 

Cheryl Niarhos, Assistant Teacher

Cheryl joined Torbank in 2015 as a teaching assistant in the two year old class and now is an assistant in the three year old class. Cheryl's two children attended Torbank and while here, she was actively involved holding Board positions, being class Mom, and supporting the school in any way she was able. She lives in Ossining with her husband and two children She is a busy Mom when not working in the classroom with T ball, girl scouts and swimming.

Leanne Hughes, Head Teacher

Leanne began her professional career at Torbank in 2018.  She live in Ossining with her two boys, both alumni of Torbank. Leanne was actively involved at Torbank when her children attended, serving on the Executive Board and assisting in the classroom.  She has joined the Torbank staff with a wealth of early childhood experience.  She holds a BA in Child Psychology from Goucher College in Baltimore, MD.  Her interests include running, hiking, biking and photography.

Daria Garufi, Assistant Teacher

Daria has been the assistant to the three year old class since 2011.  She lives in Ossining with her husband and two sons, Santino and Gianni…both Torbank graduates. She loves to dance, cook, garden and canning loads of tomatoes!  Daria also loves being a busy Mom to her two boys and has an accounting degree from Westchester Business Institute! 

Meredith Bruckman, Assistant Teacher

Meredith has been actively involved at Torbank for the past several years while both her daughters attended. She held Board positions, helped out in the classroom, and worked on many fundraising events. Meredith holds a BSW in social work from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs , NY. Meredith is now a teaching assistant in the three year old class. She lives in Croton with her husband, two daughters, and their dog Izzy.

Kristine Adams, Head Teacher & Faculty Chairperson

Kristine Adams lives in Ossining, with her husband Greg, her daughter Olivia, and her big white puppy, Achilles.  In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Kristine is also the faculty chair, overseeing the curriculum and representing the school along with Gayle Aprile in the community. Kristine holds her BA in fine Arts with a minor in Education and Psychology from SUNY Oswego. She has post graduate work in Art Therapy at College of New Rochelle. Kristine believes that a great education begins with a curiosity, and respect for our world and the people in it; that it is vital to build our children’s self esteem and to do this through creative play and active participation in exploring our world, through experimenting with new art materials and building confidence. 

Mary Hagg, Assistant Teacher

Mary has been teaching at Torbank since 2006. She lives in Ossining with her three children, the youngest two are Torbank graduates.  Mary holds a Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Manhattanville College. She enjoys cooking, golf, tennis, and is being a busy sports Mom to her kids.
